Young Kings Club
0The Young Kings Club is an after school program led by Mr. Andre Russell at Learn Hunter Perkins school. We met Andre through the BRIJ organization and the work that he does with his organization the Smith Center for Community Advancement. Andre has a heart of gold and a love for community. He puts 100% effort into everything that he does. We shared what we were trying to do with the Year of Da King initiative and he instantly threw his hat into the ring. Andre and other staff members pour their heart into the young men during their mentoring sessions. Check out some images from one their last session where they had guest speakers Eddy Lamarre AKA “Precise” and Ollie Woods Aka “HoodRaised”.
1st Annual Year of Da King Gala
0On December 7th 2019 U Can Turn It Around hosted it’s 1st Annual Year of Da King Gala in partnership with Ollie Hood Raised Woods. It was a great night full of networking, entertainment, food, fun and honoring boys and men that are doing fantastic things.In addition, the collection of photos depicting men as Kings curated by Antwan McHenry and Tony Briscoe were on display. We would like to thank all of our business sponsors as well as the vendors that serviced the crowd. Who pulled the trigger??
Violence starts in the heart long before the trigger is pulled.
There are many factors to violence so don’t be fooled.
There are many of us that grow up in poverty..
Somehow we get convinced that our neighbors are the enemy..
Coveting what your neighbor has gives life to greed.
The evil starts to grow spreading its murderous seeds.
It creeps into the crib of a child that suffers from neglect.
Distorting their vision and choking respect.
Making them believe in violence, envy and strife.
Love exits hate enters they don’t care about life.
All they want to know is where to get a gun.
So that they can escape their conditions and have a little fun.
Maybe grab some heat from a gun shop over the state line.
All they want is the money, they don’t care about nobody dying.
Shop don’t care about my upbringing or that nobody cared.
All they want is that money so I can start there.
This is how it all starts many factors and figures.
Now ask yourself who did it, who really pulls the trigger?
